Fort Mill is just outside of Charlotte, NC, and just over the border into SC. Fort Mill is one of the fastest growing towns near Charlotte. It has a small historic downtown center, a 2100-acre natural area called Anne Springs Close Greenway, and other amenities such as shopping, restaurants, medical offices and others.
The commercial buildings along the main street of Fort Mill’s historic downtown area were built after the railroad came to town in 1852. They have now been revived, and are home to locally-owned restaurants like Hobo’s, Emmet’s Social Table, and the Improper Pig as well as shops. Main street along with the downtown park, has town-sponsored events such as Trick or Treat on Main Street, the Christmas Parade and Lighting of the tree, and the Fourth of July celebration featuring food trucks, live music, and fireworks as well as many other events.
Fort Mill is home to Anne Springs Close Greenway, 2100 acres of protected natural areas of lakes, forests, and pastures for hiking, biking, kayaking, and horseback riding. The Greenway also has facilities for weddings, various events such as the summer concert series, live music at the Gateway Canteen, and summer camps.
Fort Mill’s downtown area has many quaint restaurants and shops. However, two newer areas for dining, shopping, and offices are Kingsley and Baxter Town Center. Kingsley was built to look historic, resembling an old textile mill of the past, as an honor to Fort Mill’s textile heritage. Kingsley is 660 acres of retail businesses, apartment, hotels, dining, offices, and even a hospital. Enjoy restaurants such as Napa at Kingsley, Spice Asian Kitchen, Epic Chophouse at Kingsley or many others. And right across I-77 is Baxter Town Center which includes additional restaurants, shops, and offices.
Carowinds is a 407-acre amusement park that straddles the border of North and South Carolina with the SC portion in Fort Mill. Carowinds has almost 60 world-class rides, a waterpark, live entertainment, and family-friendly events.
