Suburbs of Charlotte, NC

There are many suburbs of Charlotte, NC as well as many small towns surrounding the city.

South Charlotte:

Ballantyne started developing in 1995 and is now a newer area of Charlotte near the North Carolina/South Carolina border with great golfing. South Charlotte includes Mecklenburg and Union counties and sometimes the area of Lancaster and York counties. Suburbs in this area include Weddington, with large homes on an acre plus lots, Waxhaw with his pedestrian friendly downtown area surrounded by new construction, Marvin, a small area between Ballantyne and Waxhaw with some large horse farms and a Matthews/Indian Trail with lots of historic charm and family friendly festivals. Southwest Charlotte straddles the North Carolina and South Carolina border. This is York and Lancaster Counties in South Carolina and Gaston County in North Carolina.

West  Charlotte:

The suburbs of Lake Wylie have waterfront and water access. Belmont a former Mill town, and is an easy commute to uptown with numerous riverside parks and a vibrant downtown area. Tega Cay is a peninsula into Lake Wylie with good golfing options. Fort Mill, in York County, retains a small downtown feel with its main street shops and restaurants but is one of the fastest growing suburbs of Charlotte with lots of newer construction.

North Charlotte and Northwest Charlotte

Northwest Charlotte includes Iredell and Lincoln counties. This includes the Huntersville/Cornelius/Lake Norman areas with lots of outdoor and water recreational activities. Lake Norman is the Carolinas largest man-made lake with 500 miles of shoreline. Lake Norman State Park is a 328 acre park for camping, mountain biking, hiking, running, a public beach for swimming and boat docks for fishing and boating. The Peninsula club is located in Cornelius and has 11 acres of waterfront miles for golf and tennis. Davidson is a small historic college town and Mooresville is the headquarters of NASCAR and a thriving area. Huntersville is the closest lakeside town to Charlotte and was ranked number two on Forbes “America’s Best Place to Move”. There are many national and international employers in the area.

Northeast Charlotte is primarily Cabarrus County with the towns of Concord and Kannapolis, home of the Charlotte Motor Speedway and diverse real estate from older homes to newer construction. Harrisburg has a robust town center with lots of community events.

East Charlotte:

East Charlotte includes areas like Mint Hill and as you move towards the south, the areas of  Matthews, and Indian Trail.
