Mount Holly is located in Gaston County North Carolina, along the west side of the Catawba River. Mount Holly was named after a cotton mill that was started back in 1875.The historic cotton mill located in the heart of downtown Mount Holly is now called The Grand Hall, and has been converted to an event venue with exposed brick, open beams, a vaulted wooden roof, and large windows. Like several other towns near Charlotte NC, Mount Holly has a charming historic downtown area that includes restaurants, offices, and shopping, and has events in the downtown area throughout the year. One of the major events in Mount Holly is Springfest in early May which has over 100 vendors, lots of food, music, kids activities, and a car show. Because Mount Holly is on the Catawba River, there are unique riverfront activities and miles of nature trails, both greenways and blue ways within the town limits. Mountain Island Park is located right below the dam. The park has a 1.6 mile walking trail, a 2 mile mountain bike trail, a fishing pier, a natural canoe and kayak launch area, a playground, and rustic campsites. Tuckaseege Park is a large park with fields, a playground, picnic shelters, dog park, skate park, and a walking trail that is part of the Carolina Thread Trail called Catawba Riverfront Trail or the A&E Riverfront Trail. This 1.2 mile paved Catawba Riverfront Trail connects a .7 mile paved loop in Tuckaseege Park and a .3 mile paved segment at the Tuckaseege Community Center. Another riverfront park is River Street Park. This park has a ball field, a 9 hole disc golf course, picnic shelters, a fishing pier, a natural canoe and kayak launch area, a playground, basketball court, sand volleyball court, and walking trail. The Tailrace Marina in Mount Holly is located on the Catawba River. This marina has kayak and paddleboard rentals, boat slip leasing, and other amenities.
Check out the US National Whitewater Center which is only 3 miles away from Mount Holly. The Whitewater Center has whitewater rafting and kayaking, ziplines, flatwater kayaking and paddle boarding, rock climbing, and mountain biking, trail running, and hiking.
