Active Adult Communities in the Charlotte area

There are almost 70 active adult communities in or around Charlotte, NC.  Did you know that not all active adult communities have a 55 plus age restriction? Active adult communities have certain floor plans (think ranch style homes or the master bedroom downstairs) but do not restrict homeowners to be 55 or older. They have low maintenance housing and cater to retirement age individuals. These are perfect for homeowners who are seeking to downsize. However, there are some active adult communities that do have age restrictions and at least one homeowner must be 55 years old or older. 

Active adult communities offer homeowners a great sense of community and a neighborhood filled with your peers.  Most have resort style amenities including state of the art fitness centers, pools and meeting rooms for large events and parties. These communities have tennis, pickleball and bocce ball courts and some have miles of walking and biking trails. You can relax in your home or attend many social events or participate in clubs and classes or volunteer opportunities. Many offer lawn maintenance. Some have gated entrances. All have nearby shopping with grocery and most have close medical facilities.

The homes in active adult communities have right sized living plans. Master bedrooms are downstairs. Most floor plans do not have stairs.  These homes have smaller square footage and low maintenance exteriors.  There is usually a price point available for everyone.  Many times there are restrictions on parking, landscaping and paint colors in these adult communities.  And in the age-restricted communities, you may need to check the rules on regular visitations and overnight stays from visitors under the age of 18.
